1. What is Search Engine Optimization(SEO)?

Search engine optimization is a technique that is used to increase the ranking of a website on search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc) in their results pages for search queries related to your website’s product and services. When a search engine lists your site higher in their listings, more visitors will find your website through the search engines.

SEO is used to increase the traffic and visibility of websites on major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Businesses use SEO strategies to make sure they show up on relevant searches on a search engine results page. This gives them the opportunity to attract potential customers who are searching for related information and services.

If you’re like most business owners, then you probably have a website or blog that your target market can visit in order to learn more about your products or service offerings. You may also have an advertising budget that you’d like to see pay off. If you’re like many others, then you’re not getting the results you had hoped for.

There are a number of reasons why this happens and one of them is that your website doesn’t appear on Google page 1 when someone searches for terms related to your business.

In fact, you may not even be on page 2 or 3. The good news is that there are a few simple and easy things you can do to improve your ranking so that you don’t appear towards the back end of page 2 where no one will find you.

It’s important to realize that Google and other search engines are looking at your website to determine how valuable it is. In order for them to do this, they need a way to measure the quality of what you have put on your site. If what they find isn’t up to their standards, then chances are you won’t show up on page 1 of the search engine results.

The good news is that there are a few things you can do to help boost your ranking without having to become an SEO expert. You can learn about SEO and apply these techniques yourself in order to improve your company’s visibility on search engines.

2. Shocking Fact About SEO

A shocking fact about SEO is that in the world, it is estimated that there are at least 500 million sites on seo. This is a huge number of websites competing for your attention.

At least 1 Billion people visit a search engine at least once daily. Around 20% of all shoppers start their product research online by using search engines. That’s an estimated 40 million people each day or 2.75 billion per month!

Website owners are well aware of this and should use the tools available to make it easy for their visitors to find what they are looking for. If you are a business owner who wants to succeed online, then implementing search engine optimization is practically a necessity if you really want your website to generate more traffic and boost sales.

The problem is that most people see SEO as being this complicated and hard thing to do.

SEO can be a tough challenge, but it doesn’t have to be if you take the time to learn what you need. Many business owners who are new to SEO think that they have to reach the top of search engines like Google just to get a good ranking and increase in sales. This is not true and can be a very costly mistake to make.

In reality, being number one on Google is almost impossible for most websites because there are too many other sites fighting for that spot as well. You don’t have to worry about reaching the top of search engines if you know what to do to get a good number of visitors.

By following some key SEO tips, you will be able to get your site ranked well enough on search engines that you will start getting more traffic and sales.

When you implement SEO, do not obsess about reaching the top search engines. Instead, make it a goal to improve your page views by at least 20% within just a few weeks. This is much easier and more realistic than trying to reach the top of Google for most sites.

Even if you only get an additional 10 visitors per day, this will add up to an extra 350 visitors per month. Over the course of a year, you could gain over 4,500 more visitors for free.

3. Why Is SEO Important for Your Business?

Search engine optimization, or SEO, is an important part of any business’ digital marketing strategy. With the increase in online shoppers and competition for search engine traffic, it is more challenging than ever to rank high on search engines like Google. For businesses, ranking higher on search engines can be the difference between doing well and going out of business.

Some quick facts about SEO:

– Google picks up about 95% of its traffic from searches. They also have 80% share of the market for internet searches and 95% share of mobile searches. With SEO you can beat your competitors to a similar level of success.

– Anything appearing in the top 3 entries on any search engine will get a 67% click-through rate.

– 72% of shoppers that access the internet regularly make online purchases.

– 77% of consumers use a search engine to find local businesses.

– 35% of online shoppers will make purchases from a business they have never heard of before but trust in a search result.

– Each month, worldwide Google queries add up to over 3 billion.

SEO is one of the only marketing strategies that can give you guaranteed results. During almost any economic situation, potential customers will spend money. Whether they are in a recession or an economic boom, they will spend money because everyone needs things like groceries and services like dentist appointments. This means that, even during bad economic times, there are plenty of potential customers to be found online.

Even during economic hardships, people still need services and products. With proper SEO work, your business will be ready to take advantage of this opportunity and potentially get more customers than you would in a good economy. By doing the right SEO work, you can make sure that any potential customer who searches for your product online will see your website first.

When you run an effective SEO campaign, it will be easy for potential customers to find your business and make a purchase. Your competition may have more money, more staff members, and bigger offices than you do, but with the right SEO work, they won’t get any business that comes from online search engine traffic. The only way to rank well on search engines is to be active on the internet. So, if your business does not have a website, this is one of the first steps you should take when starting your SEO campaign.

With a website, you can begin to build your online presence. Online search engines want businesses that have an active web presence and relevant content. This means that if your website is active, alive, and contains new information about the services of products offered by your business, it could rank higher than a competitor without one.

To get started with SEO, you need to have an accurate and attractive website. Then, through SEO work, you can improve your search engine ranking, get more visitors, find new customers, and sell more of your products.

You don’t need to know anything about web design or coding in order to create an attractive and functional site. Our team of professional designers has years of experience creating websites that look great while providing exactly the functionality with your business needs. We’ll work with you every step of the way from concept development all the way through launch day, ensuring that your new site is everything you were hoping for.

4. How to do SEO Properly?

SEO is something that many people struggle with and it can be hard to know how to do it.

However, there are some simple things anyone can do in order to better optimize their site for search engines.

This can be something that is very beneficial for business owners because it allows them to improve the rank of their site and get more traffic to it.

Keyword research

Keyword research is the process of discovering words and phrases that are relevant to your business. You can use these keywords in your content for a website, blog posts, and social media updates to boost your search engine rankings. When you’re researching keywords, it’s important to keep a few things in mind.

There are many free keyword tools available online like Google’s Keyword Planner, Wordtracker, or Moz Keyword Explorer. Some of these tools also provide a free subscription plan that includes more features and enterprise-level support.

Keyword Research on Google’s Keyword Planner tool

Let’s say you’re starting a local business in Sri Lanka that sells medicines and beauty products. Your target audience is women, not men. If you search “women beauty products” on Google, the results will contain either beauty tips (a long-tail keyword) or pages of products. Your goal is to appear high in the search results so you want to get as many long-tail keywords as possible.

To use Google’s Keyword Planner, you have to create an account and supply some basic details about your business such as location, contact info, and website URL. You can even select a language if you’re targeting a global audience.

Using the Keyword Planner tool, you can enter your ideal long-tail keywords to discover alternative search phrases related to your products or business. To do that, click on “Get ideas” and follow the instructions.

The results will show a list of suggested long-tail keywords you can use in content marketing campaigns and website content. This tool is incredibly useful for companies that have a local presence and are targeting customers in specific countries or geographical regions.

Keyword Research on Wordtracker’s Free Tools

Wordtracker is another trusted keyword research tool which is easy to use and free to access. You can fill out information about your target audience, such as business location and language, before you begin the research process. You can also enter keywords related to your content to get more suggestions.

As a small business owner or online marketer, you will be doing tons of keyword research. Using Wordtracker’s tools takes just a few minutes since it offers a lot of flexibility compared with Google’s tool. For example, you can run the same keyword research twice, but use different locations to generate more relevant results.

Keyword Research on Moz Keyword Explorer

Moz’s latest free tool gives you a comprehensive insight into your target audience and potential long-tail keywords based on search volume trends. You can enter your website or blog URL to get the scores for targeted keywords. This tool is fantastic because you will be able to see how often people are searching for your potential keywords and whether or not they’re an SEO opportunity.

On-Page Optimization: Optimized Content & Keyword Insertion

Once you have a list of relevant keywords, it’s time to use them in your content. To implement on-page SEO, you need to keep two things in mind:

Write niche-specific text that is relevant and informative for the target audience.

Identify keywords and focus them throughout the entire page such as heading tags, image alt text, title tag, and meta description.

Title tags appear in search engine results, and meta descriptions show up as clickable links. These two elements are incredibly important for Google ranking because they display your content so you can attract more traffic to your website.

In the image above, you’ll see that title tag is considered by Google as one of the most important on-page SEO factors. In addition, Google automatically produces a snippet of text to improve SEO performance and display your content in the search results. You can see that title tags are very important for optimization purposes because they show up in search results.

It’s also crucial to create titles that contain relevant keywords so you’ll appear more frequently on page one of the search results.

Just like meta descriptions, the title tags act as clickable links so search engines can find your content more easily and index it for future use. If you’re targeting local customers, be sure to include location information such as city/state or country.

After you’ve entered the title tag, add a unique description for each blog post. The copy in the meta description section will show up in search engine results and grab potential customer’s attention. Don’t forget to include your keyword or main thought so you get more traffic from the SERPs.

You can identify on-page SEO opportunities by using a website audit tool like HubSpot’s On-Page SEO Checker. It will show you what keywords are already being used to target your audience, and where you should be focusing your optimization efforts.

Make sure the content is relevant to the keyword or phrase itself; avoid irrelevant fluff. If you want to rank for “organic cotton sheets,” then writing about the softness of 100% Egyptian cotton won’t bring a lot of traffic to your site. However, if you mention that the sheets are made with organic cotton, there will be a natural flow between the keyword and your content.

Furthermore, adding appropriate keywords in your article and product pages will give them a higher chance of being found in the search engine results. Here’s an example:

“Product Name (Keyword): Description of what the product is and does.”

The keyword should be present naturally rather than forced into a sentence. It should flow naturally and be easy to read.

If you don’t insert the keyword naturally in your content, Google may find it out and penalize your site for using “keyword stuffing,” which is a form of black hat SEO. The best way to avoid that is by avoiding stuffing keywords into sentences or using them in a non-natural way that is unnatural to read.

Content that is relevant to your keywords and keyword phrases will naturally perform better in the search engine results. For example, if you sell organic cotton shirts, then it’s a good idea to mention those words in the actual text so they’ll appear in the search results.

Keyword Phrases On-Page Optimization

Now that we’ve talked about the importance of targeting specific keyword phrases, let’s go over some ways you can optimize your page to rank for more keywords. Consider this:

The text on your website should reflect the words that people use in their search queries. If someone is looking for a cheap pair of glasses, they may type “cheap glasses” into Google. Therefore, the page needs to contain the phrase “cheap glasses” to be more relevant for that particular query.

Only use keywords in your title tags and on-page copy if they are naturally embedded into the text. Otherwise, you might get penalized by Google’s robots or end up with subpar rankings in the SERPs. You don’t want to end up with penalties because you’re trying to game the system.

If you choose keywords, make sure they have a high commercial value and are not hard to rank for. This will ensure that your content is found in the search results more often than not, which will help build trust among your potential customers as well as attract attention from new ones.

Your website needs to be mobile-friendly. People spend a lot of time browsing through different pages on their mobile devices, which is why your site should look just as good on a smartphone or tablet. If you’re not familiar with HTML5 and CSS3 ,  there are plenty of tools out there that will make it easier for you to optimize your site for mobile viewing.

The amount of content on your website is another factor that affects how well you rank in the SERPs. It may be helpful to write longer articles of 1,500 or more words if you want them to be found quickly among Google’s search results. It’s a good idea to use images and videos as well to create a more visually pleasing website.

Including your target keyword within the first 100 words of text is an effective way to increase the number of people that click on your page in search results. Still, one of the most important things you can do is to make sure that your content answers the questions and queries that people have in their minds.

If you put effort into writing long-form articles that are relevant to specific keyword phrases, you’re going to increase search engine optimization. The more time and effort you invest into creating valuable content, the better your chances will be of ranking high in the SERPs for a specific term.

On-Page Optimization for Local Businesses

If you operate a brick-and-mortar store, then you should make sure that all your address information (including local phone number and Google Maps) appears on the page (just in case someone doesn’t know exactly where you’re located). In this case, it may be helpful to have a map and directions on the local landing page or pages, as well.

If your business name is unusual, then you need to make sure that it’s written correctly while optimizing each page with that keyword. Additionally, you should ensure that all the metadata tags — including title tags and meta descriptions — are filled out properly.

Optimize On-Page SEO of Your Website with the Yoast Plugin

Our favorite on-page SEO plugin is Yoast’s WordPress SEO Plugin, which offers a simple interface and powerful features for your on-page optimization workflow. Just install it and get started by clicking “SEO” from the WordPress dashboard.

Click “Scan” then and let the plugin find issues that you can fix, like missing title tags or duplicate content. Go through each page of your website one-by-one until you’re done scanning, fixing any problems.

This on-page SEO plugin is smart enough to read your title tags and meta descriptions so that you can change them as needed. And if you aren’t sure how to do it, they have a built-in thesaurus for synonyms!

This tool makes it easy to check your sites’ speed in addition to all of its on-page SEO elements.

One of the best on-page optimization tools is Yoast’s internal linking suggestions, which will help you find related and important pages to link to from your existing content. This helps to improve search engine rankings because it shows Google how well-linked your website is throughout its pages — helping you rank higher organically.

When you want to create new articles and need help coming up with ideas, Yoast has a built-in content analysis feature that will give you suggestions!

Yoast’s internal linking tool not only helps you find relevant anchor texts for existing links but also reveals any unnecessary links on your website. This tool is great at helping you maintain the integrity of your link profile, so you can avoid penalties from Google’s Penguin algorithm.

Off-page optimization (backlinks)

Once you’ve worked on the on-page optimization for your website, it’s time to link building. The best way to increase your search ranking is to create strong backlinks that point towards your site. The more links there are pointing at your web pages, the higher the chances are of you going up in the SERPs for specific terms.

Now, let’s go over some backlink building strategies for businesses sites:

Local citations — You should do a search for your business name in Google Places and Yahoo! Local to make sure that all the information is filled out correctly. If there are any missing elements, you will need to go back and fix them.

Local press — Contact local newspapers and other media outlets in your area to see if they will be interested in writing an article on you or your business. This is a great free way of getting the word out about your company’s product/service offerings.

Local directories — You’ll want to create a listing on Yahoo! Local and Bing Places. Do the same thing for your local niche-specific area directories, like Manta , Insider Pages , Yelp and SuperPages . Be sure to read their guidelines first so you have the best chance of being accepted into the directory (and getting links).

Social media — If you have social media accounts, be sure to link them to your website in the body of text or at the bottom of your blog posts. This will help you gain followers, which can lead to links from social media sites to your website or blog.

Local business directories — There are a ton of local business niche-specific directories like Yelp , CitySearch and Angie’s List . They are popular places for people to search when they need products/services in their local area. This is one of the best ways to gain new customers and generate leads for your business — not to mention, you get a link back from their website!

If a user comes across a link to your site in an online discussion forum (like Reddit or Quora ) it will likely be very useful and authoritative for them, especially if it’s a link to your homepage.

This is why it’s important that your site has links from reputable websites and authority sites in your industry. This will help you get the initial boost of trust that Google needs to rank your website higher within its SERPs for specific terms (domains with more links pointing towards them typically rank higher than sites that don’t).

It’s important to remember that link building is an ongoing process and it takes time for your hard work to pay off. You won’t see significant increases in search rankings overnight — the key is consistency. The more links you have pointed towards your website, the better.

So, keep on building links (think: guest blogging and press outreach) to help increase your search ranking for specific terms (like “local business” or “online store”). It will take time, but in the long run it’s worth it because of the organic traffic that you’ll be getting from each search term. You’ll have more traffic and a better prospect of increasing sales for your business.

Once you start ranking in the top 10 or so for certain keywords on Google, then it’s time to focus on driving visits to your site through advertising (PPC) and social media marketing. So, that’s how you can optimize your site for SEO.

But let’s remember why you should do all of this in the first place…

Is It Worth It?

The answer to that question is yes! Search engine traffic can increase business and sales revenue, help get the word out about your brand, and improve your overall online presence (as long as it’s done correctly).

Why is it worth doing?

Many people do initial research on products and services using Google before spending money on something. Wouldn’t you want your potential customers to find information about your business using search engines, instead of having to click a few times in order to get to your website (which will likely have low rankings since it’s a new website)?

More traffic — By optimizing your site for search engines you’ll have more people visiting your site organically, without any spending on AdWords or other PPC advertising. This is the reason why I recommend that all businesses invest time into SEO: it’s free targeted traffic and sales leads!

Leads — Using links to your website in your social media accounts, blogs and forum posts (and even press releases) will help you gain new leads. If people like what they see on your site and they want to learn more about what you have to offer, then it’s best that they visit your site directly by following a link, rather than doing a Google search for one of your products/services. Once they get to your site you can capture their email address (if they are interested in what you do) and begin the sales process!

Keeping up with competitors — If one of your direct competitors is already doing a good job at getting links, then you need to keep up with them and beat them at their own game! By doing this you’ll see improvement in your overall search rankings and ultimately get more visitors to your website.

Paid advertising — If you already have the traffic coming to your site organically from the search engine optimization process, then it’s time to start increasing sales even further. Start running a few Google Ads campaigns or Facebook adverts in order to drive more people to your site on top of all of those organic visitors that you already have.

It’s also worthwhile to note that you don’t need a huge amount of search engine traffic in order to generate a decent amount of sales. For example, with 3,000 visitors per month (via organic search results) on eBay I was able to sell over $5,000 worth of products — this is only an average of about $1 per visitor, but that’s still $1 more than what I would have made with zero search engine traffic.

Organic traffic that converts into sales will increase your chances of increasing the revenue for your business and it can even help in lowering your overall marketing costs! But only if you’re doing things correctly.

5. Content Marketing (blogging, guest blogging)

Content marketing is important for your business because it provides you with a way of providing information about your products or services and why they are the best. It also gives people an opportunity to form a connection with your brand. Content marketing helps you build rapport with shoppers, promotes your brand awareness, increases traffic to your website, and ensures that you have search engine optimization (SEO).

There are two types of content marketing: inbound marketing and outbound marketing. Inbound is more passive, so you don’t have to spend a lot of money on advertising or promotion. Outbound is not as easy to do and requires a bit more work. Outbound marketing also doesn’t guarantee higher traffic because it relies on luck and the chance that people will find your content.

Inbound Marketing

Inbound marketing involves blogging, guest blogging, cross linking, and social media sites to promote your blog posts and website (SEO). The idea behind inbound is that you will attract traffic from search engines by writing great copy, having a strong online presence, and improving your search engine ranking through SEO. Writing great copy includes using keywords, examining your results from Google Analytics, and researching what people type into search bars when they are on Google. Good content will help you generate traffic to your website.

Guest blogging gives you the opportunity to write for other blogs as an expert in your field. When people see a great article written by you, they will want to know more about you and visit your website. This gives you the opportunity to have a stronger presence in your online marketplace and write blogs that are more user-friendly for search engines, which will help improve your rank on Google searches.

Cross linking involves linking to an article or blog post from one of your posts so people can find it easily if they liked your article. You might also want to use this technique by linking to your competitor’s site if your post is better, in order to get a backlink. This will improve your online presence and help generate traffic through search engines.

Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, and LinkedIn are important for any business because they give you the opportunity to promote and market your business for free. It is also a way of building relationships with people in your online community as well as creating customer loyalty through interaction and communication, which can lead to sales.

Outbound Content Marketing

Outbound marketing involves getting other people to talk about you or sharing your content on social media sites, so they can help you get the word out about your business. You might spend money to advertise or send letters to bloggers, newspapers, and magazines about what you have to offer. You want people who read it to then share it with their contacts on social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest (Pinfluencers).

Getting people to talk about your website is important because it generates traffic and also increases social media exposure. You can do this by writing a guest post on another blog, getting a link exchange from someone else who has an online presence, or paying for advertising that promotes what you have to offer. These are creative ways to generate traffic and promote your brand awareness.

The most important thing is getting the word out about your business, so you should also make sure that you have a strong online presence by writing original content, blogging on other sites as an expert in your field, using social media frequently to build relationships with people who like what you do, and sharing your posts with people who will be interested in what you have to offer.

6. Monitoring SEO Progress with Analytics Tools

Monitoring your SEO progress is essential to the success of your SEO strategy. This can be accomplished by using a variety of tools to track specific goals, such as site traffic and conversions. Some analytics tools you may find helpful include Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and

Google Analytics is a free tool for monitoring your site traffic. You can use this tool to track the number of unique visitors, their location, how long they stayed on your site, and more. The downside of Google Analytics is it does not focus solely on SEO and may not give you the information you need to improve your SEO performance.

Google Search Console gives you the ability to monitor site performance and track rankings of specific pages. You can also get information about your audiences, such as their age, location, and language. There is also a link option allowing you to see sites that are linking back to yours. Google Search Console is free to use and it isn’t necessary for SEO, but it can be helpful to monitor the SEO performance of your site. is a paid subscription analytics tool that monitors over 100 factors about your website’s rankings and performance. This tool gives you actionable data to help improve specific areas of your SEO strategy. It also shows you how competitors are ranking and how many backlinks they have. This can help you beat the competition and improve your rankings.

These three tools all have different focuses, so it’s important to use all of them together to get a complete picture of how your site is performing in Google search results. Use Google Analytics to monitor traffic and conversions, Search Console to monitor your SEO performance and rank, and to see how you are doing compared to your competitors.

7. How To Get Started Quickly?

Now that you know why it’s a good idea to do SEO, let me get into the nitty-gritty details of how you should go about setting everything up…

1) It’s all about the content –– The most important part of doing SEO is creating relevant, compelling, and quality content on your website. This will help you rank well in search engines, get noticed by other sites that want to link back to you, and get more potential clients/customers. You can’t skimp on this or else it could potentially hurt your search ranking.

2) Identify your niche –– Find out what you’re really good at, understand the products/services that you offer, and then figure out which keywords will help you rank well in search engines (and get more traffic to your website). This is a great time for some keyword research. You can use Google Keyword Planner to see what your competitors are using. Keyword research is something that you should do BEFORE you even write a single word of content for your website!

3) Write about it –– The next step is all about writing quality content on the topic you found in step two. You can use different types of content: blog posts, forum submissions, press releases, videos, and more. The goal of the content is to get people interested in what you have to offer. I’d recommend writing unique and valuable content on your website that doesn’t appear anywhere else online (you should use your keywords naturally within your copy, but don’t stuff them all over the place).

4) Optimize for search engines –– Once you’ve built up a decent amount of content on your website (I recommend at least 3-5 pages) now is the time to optimize them for search engines. This includes doing things like adding alt text to images, making sure all the URLs on your site are relevant, adding social media share buttons and writing unique meta descriptions that use your keywords.

5) Add links — The final step is to get more links back to your site using your unique content. You can do this by writing guest blog posts on another websites that are related in some way to you, sharing them with people on forums, submitting press releases, and getting YouTube videos from your business placed online (make sure to title it something that’ll get people’s attention).

6) Monitor everything — As your content gets more links and is found online, you need to be monitoring it closely. This is important because if you see people are linking back to the wrong parts of your website or pages that aren’t even working anymore, then you need to update them and fix them.

In summary, SEO is the process of improving your ranking on Google for a search term. The higher you rank, the more visibility and traffic to your site from people clicking through those top listings in their search results. With such high stakes at play, it’s important that all aspects of an online presence are optimized so they can be found by potential customers who need them.
